Sulfuric Acid Plant Manager

My client is a development-stage company focused on developing a sustainable, diversified supply of lithium chemicals that support future energy storage and mobile transportation.

Role

The Sulfuric Acid Plant Manager will support the construction, commissioning, and operation of a new sulfuric acid plant in Thacker Pass, ensuring safety and efficiency. This role manages the operations of the Sulfuric Acid Plant and Site Utilities, overseeing daily activities, policies, and procedures. The manager will develop and review processes to maximize safety, quality, and productivity, with a focus on continuous safety improvements. Strong communication and leadership skills, problem-solving experience, and familiarity with acid production and chemical processing equipment are essential.

The position is based in Winnemucca, NV, reporting to the Plant Manager, with travel to LAC offices, engineering and vendor sites, and Thacker Pass required.

Responsibilities

1. Establish a safety and environmental culture with appropriate procedures and programs for the sulfuric acid and utilities facilities.
2. Set up and lead the operations team to commission and startup the plant to its design capacity.
3. Provide guidance to contractors, employees, and consultants to ensure compliance with company standards.
4. Manage day-to-day operations of the plant and utilities at Thacker Pass.
5. Allocate resources effectively to optimize results.
6. Ensure production output, product quality, and timely availability of plant utilities.
7. Implement strategic initiatives and provide clear direction.
8. Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other relevant regulations.
9. Develop and manage staff, fostering trust and teamwork.
10. Monitor operations and implement corrective actions as needed.
11. Analyze data to identify waste or inefficiencies.
12. Develop systems to track and improve productivity and performance metrics.
13. Stay updated on best practices in sulfuric acid and utility management.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

1. Bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or a relevant field.
2. At least ten years of managerial experience in sulfuric acid or chemical industries.
3. Proven experience as a Plant Manager or similar role.
4. Strong leadership, decision-making, and team-building skills.
5. Knowledge of business management principles, including budgeting and strategic planning.
6. Understanding of chemical process engineering and unit operations.
7. Experience with large-scale chemical, mineral, or fertilizer processes preferred.
8. Experience in OSHA PSM facilities is required.
